Private Sector Not Immune to Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
Stacey O’Nea is the Chief Executive Officer for the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry (POMCCI). She attended the Regional Gender Equality and Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Policy and Budget Monitoring Capacity Building Program organised by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in 2020, her first foray into a formal “gender-based violence” dialogue space.
She shares her experience from the workshop and how she uses the lessons in her work.
This training supported Stacey in initiating a public and private partnership initiative through the POMCCI and the National Capital District Commission (NCDC), to address and strengthen the Capital city’s private sector response to the national issue of gender-based violence.
Her interview with PIFS also included POMCCI GBV lawyer, Ceaser Kata and the Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee (FSVAC) Manager for NCDC, Ruth Beriso.

Through the Pacific Partnership to End Violence Against Women and Girls (Pacific Partnership), the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat empowers national and regional civil society organisations (CSOs) to advocate, monitor and report on regional institutions and governments commitments to enhance gender equality and prevent violence against women and girls.
The Pacific Partnership is funded primarily by the European Union, and the Governments of Australia and New Zealand, and UN Women, and is led by the Pacific Community (SPC), UN Women and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.
