Suva, Fiji: Four members of the Pacific Islands Forum’s Specialist Sub-Committee on Regionalism (SSCR), established under the Framework for Pacific Regionalism to identify, assess and recommend regional policy initiatives to Forum Leaders and Ministers to advance Pacific regionalism will complete their terms in February. As a result the Forum Secretariat is calling for nominations from suitably experienced Pacific people to fill the available places on the SSCR.
Making the announcement, Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Dame Meg Taylor said ”I would like to thank Mr. Lopeti Senituli representing Polynesia, Mr. Gustav Aitaro representing Micronesia, Mr William Kostka representing Civil Society, and Mr. Peter Kiely representing the Private Sector for their important contributions to the Pacific region and its people over the last three years.”
“Beginning the implementation of the Framework for Pacific Regionalism has been a huge undertaking for the members of the SSCR and their efforts are deeply and sincerely appreciated by me, in my capacity as the Permanent Chair of the SSCR, and by the wider Forum family in advancing the regionalism agenda.”
The Forum Secretariat is now looking for individuals from a Polynesian Country, a Micronesian country, a Civil Society Organisation in the Pacific, and a Private Sector Organisation in the Pacific to fill the positions.
The Sub-Committee was mandated by Pacific Islands Forum Leaders in 2014, and meets at least twice annually to consider its important agenda.
Turning to the skills and experience that the SSCR was looking to attract, Dame Meg said, “We are looking for people with diverse backgrounds and experience who are committed to the vision of a healthy, free and prosperous Pacific region that draws strength from its ability to work together for the common good of all.”
“We are hoping to attract interest from individuals with expertise in analysis, economics, planning, public policy formulation, and sustainable development - people who understand the implementing capacities of our governments, organisations and communities, and who appreciate how regional-level policy initiatives can make a difference at the country-level and for the region at large.”
