Pacific Islands Forum, Suva (29 June 2023) - Forum coordination and management of cooperation activities including the 2050 Strategy for a Blue Pacific Continent, regional governance, and training has received a two million USD boost. The Representative of the Trade Office of Taiwan/Republic of China to Fiji, Mr. Joseph Chow presented the funds to the Pacific Islands Forum today as part of Taiwan’s annual development corporation assistance for 2022-2023.
At the handover ceremony, Deputy Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, Dr Filimon Manoni acknowledged the contribution and thanked the government of Taiwan/ Republic of China for its generosity. Dr. Manoni said, “The development cooperation assistance will ensure the continued support of the Pacific region’s efforts to respond to the development priorities as articulated in our 2050 Strategy for a Blue Pacific Continent”.
Mr Joseph Chow in his remarks at the handover said, “Today's ceremony reaffirms Taiwan's unwavering dedication to the progress of Pacific Island countries. It symbolizes a pivotal step in deepening Taiwan's partnership with the region and reflects our longstanding support for regional development, particularly the "2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent."
