Rt Hon Sir Mekere Morauta, KCMG, Eminent Person and Chair of the Pacific Plan Review 2013, has invited all stakeholders to provide their submissions to the Review via www.pacificplanreview.org.

The Pacific Plan for Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Integration was endorsed by Pacific Islands Forum Leaders at their annual meeting in Madang, Papua New Guinea, in 2005.

“Over the past seven years, the Pacific Plan has been true to the Leaders’ intent that it be a living document and has undergone a number of updates to its priorities,” said Sir Mekere. “However, the regional and international context has changed since the Plan’s inception and it is now time for the Plan to undergo a more comprehensive review and refresh.”

Acknowledging this, at their annual meeting in Cook Islands this year, Leaders endorsed the Terms of Reference for the Pacific Plan Review, to be led by one of the region’s Eminent Persons, Sir Mekere Morauta, former Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea.

The team includes two country officials: Mrs Noumea Simi, from Samoa, and Mr Redley Killion, from the Federated States of Micronesia. Two consultants have also been appointed: Mr Peter Bazeley, of the United Kingdom, and Mr Nick Poletti, of New Zealand. In addition, the Government of Papua New Guinea is supporting Mr Robert Igara to act as Adviser to Sir Mekere.

“The Pacific Plan Review 2013 will be as open and consultative as possible, substantive and far-ranging,” said Sir Mekere. “In addition to accepting submissions through the website platform, next year we will travel to all Forum Member countries and Associate Member countries for consultations,” explained Sir Mekere.

“Details of our travel will be uploaded on the website as the itinerary is confirmed.”

Submissions for the Pacific Plan Review close May 2013. (Ends)
