RELEASE: 25th Governing Board Meeting of PIC Tokyo Strengthens Regional Ties with PIF Secretariat

PIFS, SUVA - 24 October 2023- The Governing Board Meeting of Pacific Island Centre in Tokyo marked its 25th convening with a high-level meeting at the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Secretariat.

Co-chaired by Esala Nayasi, PIF Deputy Secretary General, and Satoshi Jimbo, Director of the Oceania Bureau for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the meeting focused on key initiatives aligned with the 2050 Strategy and emphasised the importance of strengthened regional engagement.

"Your presence here today serves as a reminder of the robust and enduring relationship between the Secretariat and Japan. This is evident in the convening of over two decades of board meetings, which reaffirm the pivotal role of the Governing Board in offering strategic oversight and direction to the operations and management of the Pacific Islands Centre in Tokyo,” said Nayasi.

Over the years, the Governing Board has played a critical role in directing and overseeing the activities of the PIC in Tokyo, ensuring that it continues to be a hub of Pacific engagement and collaboration.

The governing Board was attended by Deputy Director of the Oceania Bureau for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Director of PIC Tokyo, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Fiji, Director of Programmes & Initiatives and PIFS staff.
