Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General, Mr Henry Puna's Statement on Papua New Guinea
12 September 2022
“Yesterday’s magnitude 7.6 earthquake rocked Papua New Guinea, claiming lives and impacting families and communities.
My prayers, and those of our Forum family, are with the people of Papua New Guinea and I am anxious for those in the Eastern region”.
“Due to the remote location, the extent of the damage to property and essential infrastructure is not yet known, but I nevertheless look forward to working with the Government of Papua New Guinea to see how we can best provide support at this unfortunate time.
Papua New Guinea is of course a critical Member of the Pacific Islands Forum family, and we will support the Government and People as best as possible.”
