The Pacific Aid for Trade Strategy 2020-2025 was approved by Pacific Islands Forum Trade Ministers in February 2020. It identifies a handful of priority areas for the development of regional AfT projects and initiatives. These are:
- Connectivity
- Services
- E-commerce
- Deepening Markets, including through trade agreements, trade facilitation, and quality infrastructure
The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, with support from likeminded donor partners and partner agencies, has developed regional initiatives in many of the Strategy’s priority areas. Among donor partners, the Government of Australia has been the strongest advocate about the importance of adopting regional approaches to complement country-level work.
Halfway through its cycle, this event will present progress with implementation of the Pacific Aid for Trade Strategy 2020-2025, draw lessons from past experience, highlight next step, and start looking into what future regional priorities may look like.
